Below are the resumes of the HMI team members. You will see that we have significant expertise and experience in the areas of ergonomics, human factors, risk management, physical ability test design & validation, and fitness assessments and training.
Paul C. Di Vico, Ed.D., FACSM, CIE  
President of HMI, Paul Di Vico received his doctorate from Columbia University, where he placed major emphasis on the study of applied work physiology. He has served as a faculty member with the City University of New York, as Director of the Corporate Health and Fitness Program for Exxon’s International Operations Headquarters in New Jersey, and as Director of Applied Physiology and Work Conditioning Programs for the occupational health services contractor to the U.S. Department of Energy in Richland, Washington.

Dr. Di Vico is a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and is certified by the ACSM as a Preventive and Rehabilitative Exercise Specialist and Health/Fitness Director, by the National Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist, and as a Certified Industrial Ergonomist by the Oxford Research Institute. He has received specialized training from the National Association of Disability Evaluating Professionals in functional capacity assessment and work tolerance screening. He has also trained with the University of Utah in the areas of applied ergonomics and human factors. Dr Di Vico has presented and published numerous papers on occupational injury risk assessment and management, as well as validation of physical performance indicators and their association with health risk or job performance.

Dr. Di Vico specializes in the management of work-related injury risk, ergonomic analysis and abatements and physical rehabilitation in occupational and industrial settings. He specializes in job-demand/worker-capacity gap analysis, work-site hazard analysis, management and employee training and training program design. His focus is to facilitate the reduction of lost or restricted work time and health care costs and to enhance employee performance through the scientific application of the principles of work physiology and applied human factors in the work environment.

Lee N. Cunningham, D.P.E., FACSM
Dr. Cunningham earned his doctoral degree in exercise physiology at Springfield College. As Emeritus Professor at Fitchburg State College, Fitchburg, MA, with over thirty years experience in the allied health and education fields, he authored or co-authored numerous peer- reviewed papers, abstracts, and book chapters concerned with applied exercise science, fitness assessment and training, physical education programming and athletic coaching.

A Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine, Dr. Cunningham has served as a consultant in the area of job-related physical performance to the Massachusetts State Police (MSP) since 1992 developing both the first task-related performance test for recruits and incumbents and the fitness leader training workshops. He developed and presented similar workshops for public safety agencies across New England and in Europe. He has also developed programs for the physiological testing and training of athletes, healthy adults and diabetics in both community-based and clinical settings. Currently, he is actively engaged in research into the physiological basis of foot pursuit performance in law enforcement.

Dr. Cunningham serves HMI as Senior Scientist and is responsible for assisting with the job task analysis process, with on-site physical performance testing, data collection and analysis, and with the development of physical fitness standards. Dr. Cunningham is also an instructor for HMI’s Certified Fitness Coordinator Workshops.

Gary Rischitelli, M.D., J.D., M.P.H.

Dr. Rischitelli earned his medical degree at the Baylor College of Medicine, and completed his residency in Occupational Medicine at The Johns Hopkins University. He received his law degree from the Northwestern School of Law of Lewis and Clark College and his M.P.H. from the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Dr. Rischitelli is the Consulting Director of Medical Services for Health Metrics, Inc. With more than 15 years experience providing clinical and consultation services in occupational medicine, he has presented, or published numerous papers and provided expert testimony in the several areas of occupational medicine including toxicology, disability evaluation, fitness to work, and many topics in occupational health law. Dr. Rischitelli is Director of the Occupational Health Program at the Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU) and serves as Medical Director of OHSU’s employee fitness program in Portland, Oregon. He is also Medical Director of OHSU WorkComp, a state-certified Workers’ Compensation managed care organization. He holds academic appointments as an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Emergency Medicine and Public Health and Preventive Medicine. He is an Adjunct Professor of Environmental Law at the Northwestern School of Law of Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Rischitelli directly responsible for the development and implementation of occupational health services programs for organizations ranging from Federal Bureau of Investigation Field Offices to major city transportation, public works, and public safety agencies across the Northwest.

Board Certified in Occupational Medicine and Board Eligible in Medical Toxicology by the American Board of Preventive Medicine, Dr. Rishtelli is a Fellow of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) and a Fellow of the American College of Legal Medicine. He served as the Founding Chairperson of the ACOEM Section on Occupational Health Law & Policy, and is the Associate Chairperson of the ACOEM Committee on Ethical Practice in Occupational Medicine.

Thomas Armeli, M.S., CHFI
Mr. Armeli has more than 35 years of experience developing, designing and evaluating training programs in the public and private sectors. He is certified by the American College of Sports Medicine as a Health and Fitness Instructor. As HMI’s Senior Field Analyst, he is responsible for coordinating all training programs and assists in designing and delivering a job tasks analysis projects. He has assisted in developing, designing and validating job-related physical ability tests for over 45 clients including commercial businesses, fire and police departments, and federal security services nation-wide.

He is responsible for curriculum development, marketing and instruction for HMI’s Certified Fitness Coordinator Workshop©, a program that trains individuals to develop, execute and manage organization-level fitness programs. He is also the project lead for maintaining and enhancing HMI’s state-of-the-art physical fitness assessment and exercise prescription software package, FitScan®.

A retired Army Officer, during his 24 years on active duty Mr. Armeli was responsible for developing, managing and evaluating numerous unit-level fitness programs for units ranging in size from 30 to 500 personnel. Mr. Armeli possesses a B.S. in engineering from the United States Military Academy, holds an M. S. in electrical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley and is a 1992 graduate of the US Army War College. Additionally, he holds a certification from the American College of Sports Medicine as a Health & Fitness Instructor.

Ann Grediagin, Ph.D., R.D., C.S.S.D., CFS, CFI

Dr. Grediagin received a B.S. degree in Nutrition from Oregon State University, an M.S. in Sports Nutrition from Georgia State University with a minor in Exercise Science and her doctorate in Sports Nutrition from Oregon State University.  Dr. Grediagin has worked in various capacities in a number of diverse settings. Her resume includes positions as the Chief of the Nutrition Care Division, Principal Nutrition and Exercise Research Investigator, and Assistant Professor.  Additionally, she has advised the US and Canadian Forest Services on the nutritional needs of wildland firefighters and the US Army regarding the nutritional needs of soldiers as related specifially to physical performance during deployments.

Dr. Grediagin holds numerous exercise related certifications.  She is a Certified Health-Fitness Instructor through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), a Certified Fitness Coordinator (CFC) through HMI, and a Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics through the American Dietetic Association.  Dr. Grediagin is a co-author and contributing editor of HMI’s Certified Fitness Coordinator Manual and serves as a co-instructor for our CFC workshops.  As a senior scientist, she also assists HMI on various projects with the acquisition and analysis of technical analysis field data, preparation of technical reports and with both on-site job analysis and physical fitness test administration.  Dr. Grediagin is currently the Director of the US Military Graduate Program in Nutrition in the San Antonio, TX, area.

Henry Romero, PhD, CPE, CSP

Henry Romero has a doctorate in Industrial Engineering from Texas Tech University. Dr. Romero’s specialty is physical ergonomics. He is also an experienced human factors engineer and usability specialist. He is certified as a professional ergonomist by the Board of Certified Professionals and as a safety professional by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals. He has more than 15 years experience in ergonomics, quality management, safety management, fire protection, and environmental engineering. He has authored and presented numerous papers for domestic and international conferences and co-authored several papers for prestigious journals. He has worked as the Corporate Ergonomist for a Fortune 150 company and has consulted to numerous Fortune 500 and small to mid-size companies.

Dr. Romero specializes in the development and presentation of training to employees in the areas of proper lifting, office ergonomics, computer vision syndrome, ergonomics engineering, healthcare ergonomics, and construction ergonomics. He has programmed computer applications for PC’s and handheld devices to analyze various ergonomic issues in office and non-office environments. He has trained numerous corporate and facility-level ergonomics teams and developed safety procedures compliant with ISO 9000 standards.

Dr. Romero has performed ergonomic evaluations in several hospitals (including pediatric and women’s hospitals) and conducted thousands of ergonomics assessments of various office environments. He has performed numerous worksite evaluations in oilfields, petrochemical facilities, light and heavy manufacturing environments, commercial bakeries, textile factories, food processing centers, and semiconductor manufacturing and nuclear facilities. As a Senior Scientist for Ergonomic and Human Factors programming, he supports HMI’s efforts in the areas of site analysis, abatement program development, and ergonomics/human factors related employee training services.
